Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package Filo Dough (store-bought)
  • 2 cups Whole Milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 3 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • Icing Sugar (for dusting)
  • Cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup Butter (melted, or use coconut oil)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard Filling: Whisk together 2 cups of milk, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch in a saucepan until smooth.
  2. Add the Eggs: In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Gradually stir into the milk mixture.
  3. Cook on the Stove: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
  4. Prepare the Filo Dough: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lay out the filo dough and cover with a damp cloth.
  5. Layer the Dough: Grease a baking dish, brush one sheet of filo with butter, layer another sheet above, and repeat for 5-6 layers.
  6. Add the Custard: Pour the cooled custard over the layered filo, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top it Off: Layer the remaining filo on top, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  8. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and crisp.
  9. Finalize and Serve: Dust with icing sugar and cinnamon before serving.
