Easy Shepherd’s Pie

A comforting and flavorful Shepherd’s Pie recipe, perfect for chilly evenings or family dinners.

  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Sauté the diced onions in olive oil for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  3. Add minced garlic, diced carrots, and celery, and sauté for another 5 minutes.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and add ground lamb or beef. Brown for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in tomato paste and cook for a minute. Pour in red wine and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, add frozen peas, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  7. Prepare the mashed potatoes, reheat if using leftovers, or boil and mash if making fresh.
  8. Assemble the pie by layering the meat mixture in a baking dish and spreading mashed potatoes on top.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Broil for a few minutes for extra crispiness.
  10. Let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
